South Combe Farm
South Combe Farm, located near Sidmouth in the Salcombe Regis area, is a notable site both historically and ecologically. In the early 20th century, South Combe Farm, alongside South Down Farm on Salcombe Hill, was preserved in perpetuity as private open space through agreements between the Rev. J.G. Cornish, Dr. Vaughan Cornish, and the Sidmouth Urban District Council. These agreements aimed to maintain the natural beauty of the area and ensure public access, even in the event of cliff erosion. Nature South Combe Farm has been recognized for its ecological value, particularly as a habitat for the cirl bunting, a farmland songbird that had been struggling in the UK.
